Ice hockey, speed skating & figure skating

Ice hockey

Hot and happening on the ice
The TIWAG Arena is Tyrol’s most important location for national and international ice hockey matches. Every year, from autumn onwards, the sharply polished blades of Innsbruck’s HCI ice hockey team cut their way across the ice in the TIWAG Arena. Come and be a part of it when the HCI stars battle it out against their opponents in the national league.

Would you like to find out more about ice hockey and not just watch others play? The Tyrolean Ice Hockey Association is responsible for the organisation of the ice hockey and inline hockey championships. Their staff is more than happy to offer information about the sports of ice hockey and inline hockey and, on request, they can provide you with contact details for clubs close to your place of residence where you can learn and practice these sports under professional guidance.

Ice stock sport / curling

Ice stock sport
Although ice stock sport - a sport somewhat similar to curling and played mainly in the Alpine region - has existed for hundreds of years, it has managed to retain its popularity and is currently booming as an ideal team activity for corporate events and as a fun recreational game for families and groups of friends. Whether you practice distance shooting or target shooting, fun and entertainment are guaranteed. Visit us here in the Olympiaworld and try out your hand at this team game.

Curling
Precision sport with a long Olympic tradition
Curling is, alongside ice hockey, one of the two Olympic ‘game disciplines’ played on ice. Its name comes from the old word ‘to curr’ which means to growl or make a low rumbling sound - like the noise made as the stones slide across the ice. The aim is to throw your curling stones closer to the target than the opposing team.

Speed skating

Power and speed on ice
The Tyrolean Ice Skating Association also offers training and coaching in the sports of long-track speed skating on the 400 m oval, short-track speed skating on the ice hockey rink, figure skating and inline/roller skating. The training and coaching sessions on offer in the Olympiaworld are carried out by qualified professional trainers.
Summer training comprises a combination of running, cycling, mountain biking, fell running, gymnastic exercises, stretching and inline skating. Summer training on ice begins in the indoor hall in August and lasts until mid-November after which training is carried out on the outdoor track. The summer training is particularly intensive and athletes are also supported by sport physicians and sport psychologists.
